In September 2014, AB Women's Ministries sponsored its first ever cruise, in partnership with AB Women in Ministry. The theme was "A Time to Serve: Prepared to Serve" and focused on the need to care for ourselves physically and spiritually in order to be excellent leaders in Christ's name. The four-day cruise to the Bahamas was on the Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas.
The Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas was our home for four days during the first ever cruise sponsored by American Baptist Women's Ministries in partnership with American Baptist Women in Ministry, September 19-22, 2014. The theme for the event was "A Time to Serve: Prepared to Serve," highlighting our need to care for ourselves physically and spiritually in order to be excellent leaders in Christ's name.
We started things off in a very "tasteful" manner with a welcome reception on Friday afternoon, sponsored by AB Women in Ministry (ABWIM) and Minister's Council, ABCUSA.
Women began to get to know one another at the reception, assisted by some fun "get-to-know-you" questions provided by Barbara McKean, member of the planning team.
Barbara McKean (planning team member) greeted everyone at the reception, and then introduced our national events coordinator, Rev. Valerie Andrews.
Valerie brought words of greeting and explained the schedule for the weekend. During her introductions, we distributed gifts to participants from AB Women's Ministries.
Rev. Pat Hernandez, director of American Baptist Women in Ministry, also brought greetings as well as taking the opportunity to hand out some gifts to participants from ABWIM and Minister's Council.
The ship disembarked from Port Canaveral, Florida, into some very dark skies.
But that didn't stop us from having fun and making friends!
A wonderful statue in one of the seating areas on the ship.
Executive director Virginia Holmstrom and ABHMS staff (consultant to AB Women's Ministries) Victoria Goff get ready for our day at Coco Cay.
Coco Cay--a day of relaxation and self-care.
Here's another view of the ship, taken from the beach at Coco Cay.
Creative little towel creatures greeted us in our cabins each day.
And, of course, the food was wonderful...
